Historic House, Steam Railway & Distillery Experience
Completed in late 2018, the St. Nicholas Abbey Heritage Railway offers a unique glimpse into the plantation’s landscape, winding through sugar cane fields, tropical gullies, and iconic viewpoints such as Cherry Tree Hill. The steam-powered train is a highlight for visitors, combining a scenic journey with a touch of living history. Guests even have the opportunity to step out and help operate the turntable, moving the locomotive onto different tracks — a fun, hands-on experience for all ages.
Departures leave from the railway station, where visitors will also find a small café and gift shop. Here you can purchase St. Nicholas Abbey Heritage Railway memorabilia, as well as a selection of St. Nicholas Abbey rum and plantation products. Please note that rum bottles purchased at the railway shop cannot be inscribed.
Important: Please arrive at least 20 minutes before departure. The railway operates Sunday to Friday and is closed on Saturdays for maintenance.
Tour 1: The Train Journey
A 60-minute ride through the plantation, including crossing a Victorian steel trestle bridge and a stop at Cherry Tree Hill for panoramic views of the island’s east coast.
