How do I find a Place or Article which I have previously viewed?
For a place or article to be available to you in your history you will need to have marked it as a Favorite, which can then be viewed by selecting the Heart icon at the top of the web or mobile app page. In order to Favorite anything or to view your past favorites you must be logged in. Beyond adding it to your Favorites, you will need to use search to find what it was you saw previously.
Do I have to enable Mobile Data when traveling in order to use the Rekke mobile App?
No you do not. The mobile App will cache data about your trip, including maps, and will use your phones GPS location to guide you during your travels.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This off-line use of the app will only work if you have enabled Location Tracking for the app.
How do I filter what I see?
We have provided several quick filter buttons to allow you to narrow your viewing by broad topics, the main components of an enjoyable trip; Eat, Sleep, Drink, Shop, Play, Explore and More. When you select several of these items with any of the selected categories will be displayed.
We also recognize that there is a lot more to a trip than just those, so other items are located under the More button. More comprehensive search and filter capabilities will be added soon.
If all this information and trip planning is free, how does Rekke make money?
Within the "Places" side of Rekke, you will notice that some are significantly larger in their profile, and have much more information about them. These locations subscribe to our platform to elevate their profile. This is our primary source of income. Other ways we do and plan to gather income are from Advertising, Fees collected from bookings with our up-coming integrated booking engine.
Does Rekke support the local communities?
Through our "Give-Back" program, we provide you, the traveler, the opportunity to find things to do during your trip to allow you to experience something different, enjoy your trip in unique ways, all the while helping to improve the community in which you are spending your vacation.
In addition Rekke acts as a platform from which you can find services, recognized by locals, which are not available on other sites, so spreading the tourist money across a broader spectrum of community businesses.
Why does Rekke only cover one location?
We are focused on providing detailed, valid information, gathered and written by people, rather than using AI to generate it. We are just starting out, and have picked Barbados as our initial place, though we have plans to begin rolling out new places in the near future. For the time-being we will concentrate on the wider Caribbean. If you have a preference as to where you would us to "Rekke" next please let us know by filling out this form and selecting "Next Location".
Where does the name Rekke come from?
Originating from the word reconnaissance or reconnoiter, a "recce" is an informal contraction of both, a mission or a preliminary survey of a location. We chose to use "k"s rather than "c"s as we believe the pronunciation is clearer across different language speakers. We pronounce it as "Rek" as "wreck", "Key" as in what is used to undo a lock, and matches the pronunciation of the original "recce".
