ST NICHOLAS ABBEY VISITOR EXPERIENCE
Built in the 1650s, St Nicholas Abbey is one of Barbados' most significant historic estates, set among sugar cane fields, tropical gardens, and mahogany trees. At the heart of the estate stands the Jacobean Great House, one of only three Jacobean buildings of its kind remaining in the Western Hemisphere. Today the estate operates as a working plantation and visitor attraction, with a steam railway, rum distillery, and plantation museum open to the public.
Entrance Tickets & Tours
Admission to St Nicholas Abbey includes access to the Jacobean Great House, steam-powered sugar mill*, rum distillery, plantation museum, formal gardens, and tropical gullies. Visitors may also explore Cherry Tree Hill, an avenue of mahogany trees with panoramic views of Barbados' rugged east coast.
Inside the Great House, guests can watch a 1935 home movie and learn about the estate's history through the Remembrance Room and museum displays. Adults receive a complimentary rum tasting; all visitors are offered a rum or fruit punch to drink on the terrace.
Guided tours run from 10am to 3:30pm. Visitors may also explore at their own pace using a self-guided brochure. The St Nicholas Abbey Heritage Railway offers optional rides through the plantation to Cherry Tree Hill.
*The steam-operated sugar cane press and mill (c.1890) operates from mid-January to June.

Tour 6: Signature Rum Experience Tour
A personalised half-day experience with owner and distiller Larry Warren, beginning with the steam train through the plantation, a guided tour of the Great House, and live music on the Terrace Café (lunch available, not included). The afternoon covers the steam mill (c.1890), a visit to the pot still "Annabelle," the history of rum production on the estate, and a tasting of all St Nicholas Abbey rums: White, 5YR, 8YR, and 12YR. Includes a complimentary miniature 5-year SNA Rum.
