Harry Bayley Observatory

The Harry Bayley Observatory is the only observatory in the Eastern Caribbean dedicated to public outreach, situated in Clapham, St Michael at approximately 200 feet above sea level.

Named after Dr. Harry Bayley (1908–1958), a Barbadian physician and amateur astronomer, the observatory was founded by the Barbados Astronomical Society in January 1963, following a five-year fundraising campaign. The land was donated and the building designed by architect Barbara Hill.

Refurbished in 2013/2014 with support from the Sfumato Foundation, the facility houses a 15-inch Meade telescope in the third-floor dome and a Lunt 80mm solar telescope. The telescope mount was further upgraded in 2026. Ground-level viewing is also available on a range of smaller telescopes. The facility includes a 30-seat auditorium and observation deck.
