Gallery of Caribbean Art

The Gallery of Caribbean Art is on the first floor of the Speightstown Centre on Queen's Street, the only gallery in the Caribbean committed to promoting the art of Barbados and the entire region. Run by mother and daughter Kavitha and Mohita Shenoy, the collection spans work from around 100 artists across Barbados, Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, St. Lucia, Grenada, Guyana, Antigua, Trinidad and Tobago, and beyond.

The gallery occupies three rooms, each curated with care and given proper space. There is seating in the main collection room. Entry is free; no booking is needed. Kavitha and Mohita know the artists and the work well, and are happy to talk through any piece in the collection.

The collection spans oils, acrylics, pastels, photography, ceramics, mosaics, collage, and metalwork. The subjects are Caribbean; the styles are varied, ambitious, and polished. New exhibitions open every month, and the collection is rehung between each show.
