Frangipani Art Gallery

Frangipani Art Gallery is at Haymans Market in St. Peter, showing work by around forty Bajan artists. The gallery was founded and is run by Marilda Weatherhead, a Venezuelan-born artist who has lived in Barbados for sixty years.

The collection spans painting, sculpture, ceramics, batik, and photography. Paintings include large oils, acrylics, and pastels covering coastal scenes, market life, botanicals, portraiture, and abstract work. Marilda's own pieces, including florals painted on wooden plates and coral stone assemblages with embedded shells and sea glass, are displayed throughout. The gallery also stocks Earthworks pottery on consignment, Colombian handmade jewelry, books on Barbados, prints, postcards, and fridge magnets.

Almost all work is by Bajan artists. Marilda selects pieces based on her own judgment; artists approach the gallery rather than the other way around, and there is a waiting list. Pricing is accessible by Barbados gallery standards, with original work available across a range of budgets. For visitors taking artwork home, the gallery will roll canvases for luggage rather than arrange international shipping.

Frangipani hosts the Under the Sun Festival, an annual art event bringing the gallery's artists together to meet buyers directly. A larger Caribbean-wide edition is planned at Haymans for early 2027.
