Earthworks Pottery

Earthworks Pottery sits on a breezy ridge in St Thomas, its facade covered in a mosaic of terracotta tile and the studio's signature blues and greens, visible from the road before you reach the door. Founded in 1983 by Goldie Spieler, it is now run by her son David alongside twelve Bajan potters who produce everything on site from scratch. Goldie, now in her nineties, still comes in to make pinch pots.

The range runs to more than 150 shapes across 45 hand-decorated designs: full tableware sets in round, square, rectangular, and oval, including plates, bowls, platters up to 20 inches, mugs, jugs, teapots, and coasters, alongside vases, candleholders, pet bowls, and custom house-name signs. Designs range from the intricate to the openly playful: swirling patterns, sun motifs, dots lifted from the texture of a sea urchin shell, smiling fish platters, turtles, crabs, and bus stop signs instantly recognizable as Bajan. All pieces are made from red clay fired to stoneware temperatures, and are microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe, lead-free, and food-grade. Colors draw from the blues and greens of the sea and sky, and the warm yellows, oranges, and reds of Barbados' sunsets.

Visitors are welcome to walk through the studio and watch the potters at work at no charge. Custom orders are welcome and Earthworks ships internationally.
