Campbell Notebooks
Organised and recorded by Diane Campbell, this collection of genealogical notes represents over 200 surnames found in Barbados. The notes vary in length from short paragraphs to several pages, and have been compiled from records from the Barbados Department of Archives; wills; administrative documents; and baptism, marriage, and burial certificates. It is now accessible digitally.
Journal of the Barbados Museum & Historical Society
Published since 1933 and one of the oldest running publications of its kind in the Caribbean, this journal covers the social, natural, archaeological, architectural and genealogical history and heritage of Barbados.
Lascelles Slavery Archive
This collection of information on over 350 family names has mainly been donated by researchers. The files, varied in the level of detail, include correspondence, and information on births, deaths, marriages, and wills.
Library Collection
The Library houses a collection of monographs, journals, periodicals, and pamphlets focused on Barbadian history and heritage. This collection, catalogued according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System with Library of Congress Subject Headings, is great for scholars and history buffs.
Rare Books
Rare 17th – 20th century imprints and local publications are included in this collection. One of its most well-known items is the first edition of Ligon’s True and Exact History of Barbados.
Shilstone Notebooks
The Shilstone Notebooks Collection chronicles information on various Barbadian subjects collected by the lawyer, Eustace Shilstone. It contains information on the Quakers, legislative proceedings, church history, the railway and vestry minutes, and several prominent Barbadian families, and has been digitised.
The Bajan and New Bajan Magazine
Discover Barbados in print in this collection of locally published lifestyle magazines. The Bajan covers 1953-1988 and the New Bajan gives a glimpse into Barbados during the period of 1988-1992.
Vertical File
Step back into a particular moment in time with this collection of newspaper clippings and other ephemeral information arranged alphabetically. This collection captures information on general subjects of the time period, personalities of the day, art, artists, and the environment.
Westbury Cemetery Records
With over a century of records contained in Excel spreadsheets, this collection contains burial records for the period 1877-2014 as well as stillborn burials between 1905 and 2012. These were donated by Richard Goddard.
