Meet self-taught artist Reggie Medford and hear the story of Barbados mahogany. Carving for over 30 years, Reggie Medford has the distinction of being the youngest recipient of one of Barbados' highest honours – the Barbados Centennial Honour.
Reggie can boast that he has developed a totally new technique that didn’t exist in Barbados before. He specializes in creating unique sculptures from Barbados mahogany roots.

The fully interactive tour of Medford Craft World takes you from the raw wood on the ground, through the carving process, to the finished product.
This unique process can only be seen at the studio of this self-taught artist, who is recognized as one of Barbados‘ top sculptors. On the tour, you will see the wood transformed from dirty roots into into abstract, one-off artwork and functional pieces such as bookends, clocks, napkin holders, picture frames and vases through intricate carving, sanding and polishing.

Each Medford piece is individually handcrafted from Barbados mahogany using a unique sanding process which was developed by Reggie and some of his craft workers.
The spectacular beauty of these unique forms has allowed them to grace the homes of collectors on virtually every continent.
